Biman Bangladesh Signs Deal for 11 More Boeing Aircraft

Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ latest agreement follows the $3.7 billion deal signed in April for 14 Boeing aircraft, including 787 Dreamliners and 737 MAX jets. The new purchase includes five 787-10s, which are larger widebody aircraft, and six 737-8s for single-aisle operations. Biman Bangladesh already operates Boeing 787, 777 and 737 aircraft across routes connecting Bangladesh with major hubs in the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia and Europe. The government has said the aircraft purchases are based on Bangladesh's aviation requirements and plans for new routes. Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin also said Bangladesh could consider aircraft from Airbus in the future depending on its needs.

What we think
Adding 25 Boeing aircraft to Biman Bangladesh’s order book gives the national carrier a much larger fleet to work with as Bangladesh seeks more direct connections with international destinations. However, buying more aircraft alone may not be enough. At this point, Biman Bangladesh needs more focus on profitable routes, regular passenger demand and strong management to improve international connectivity.
