DUCSU’s One-Year Term Ends: What the 2025 Committee Did and What Comes Next
The 2025 Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) committee completed its regular one-year term on September 14. At a press conference on September 17, the elected representatives presented their activities, unfinished projects, and concerns regarding the upcoming DUCSU election.

Context
The 2025 DUCSU election was held on September 9, 2025, after years without a central student-union election. The current committee was therefore given a one-year mandate under the amended DUCSU constitution. The constitution states that elected office-bearers serve for 365 days. If another election cannot be held on time, they may continue for up to another 90 days or until the next election, and during this period, major or policy-level decisions are restricted, according to reporting on the constitutional provision.
At the 17 September 2026 press conference, DUCSU representatives presented their work as a one-year “ledger”, including commitments they said had been fulfilled, were ongoing, or could not be completed. They added that announcing the election schedule was raised as a priority during its executive meetings and that a roadmap had been requested from the university administration. As of September 17, no election schedule had been announced.
Why It Matters
DUCSU says a major part of their reported work involved digitising university services like exam form submission, results, transcripts, degree certificates, marksheets, document verification, result re-evaluation and fee payments, which were moved online and the proposal for a “One DU” app, to bring hall, departmental and administrative services under one platform. Other activities included road and speed-breaker repairs, discussions on campus transport, and a delegation visit to China, including meetings with universities and research institutions.
Moreover, the committee said that more than 400 students received legal or security assistance, while campus classes and examinations continued uninterrupted during its tenure.
However, not all projects reached completion. A proposed registered rickshaw system involving driver lists, identification, fare charts and coordination with Dhaka Metropolitan Police was suspended after a change in government, according to the report.
